Jake Arrieta will be a free agent at the age of 32 after the 2017 season. Multiple reports in baseball circles believe that his agent Scott Boras wants in the range of a seven-year, $210 million contract that he got for ace pitcher Max Scherzer.
"I don’t think a six- or seven-year deal is out of the question,” Arrieta said via MLB insider Jon Heyman. "I feel very confident I can pitch until I’m 40. I do everything possible to make sure I’m healthy and durable. It could be six or seven more years. Or it could be 12." Arrieta knows that the Cubs will make the best decision for their future of their ballclub. "The team’s going to do what’s in their best interest," Arrieta said. "I really don’t know what’s going to happen." In 2016, Arrieta was 18-8 with a 3.10 ERA with 190 strikeouts and 1.08 WHIP. For his career, he is 74-46 with a 3.58 ERA with 907 strikeouts and 1.16 WHIP.
