CHICAGO — Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo has not played since last Saturday due to a back injury suffered during the course of a game. Rizzo missed the entirety of the Cubs' 3-game series at Citi Field against the New York Mets and is still not in the clear.

When asked about Rizzo's upcoming availability on Thursday, Cubs manager Joe Maddon said that he "would be surprised" if Rizzo is able to play in the Cubs' series opener at Wrigley Field against the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday. As of now, Rizzo is still considered day-to-day.
