Cubs News: Joe Maddon updates Javier Baez's injury status |
CHICAGO — After injuring his left thumb and neck on a hard slide at second base on Sunday, Chicago Cubs shortstop
Javier Baez was left out of the Cubs' starting lineup on Monday. While Baez's neck is fine, his thumb is still somewhat sore, as he jammed it when slamming into the bag on the headfirst slide. X-rays came back negative on the thumb, but the swelling was quite severe, which resulted in Baez being removed from Sunday's game.
Cubs manager Joe Maddon updated Baez's injury status while speaking with reporters on Monday. According to Maddon, Baez is day-to-day and very unlikely to enter Monday's matchup at Wrigley Field between the Cubs and the Seattle Mariners. There is also a chance that Baez will miss the Cubs' contest on Tuesday night, but it will depend on how he feels prior to Tuesday's game. Could get today & tomorrow, but will wait & see how he feels. #Cubs
