Cubs News: Morrow had elbow surgery, could miss time in 2019 |
The Chicago Cubs are hoping for the return of a healthy and dominant pitcher with regards to
Brandon Morrow.
The oft-injured closer had elbow surgery on November 6 which consisted of an 'arthroscopic debridement procedure' according to Theo Epstein. The target date for Morrow to start throwing is Feb. 6. "This was a cleanup of some cartilage, done arthroscopically," Epstein said via ESPN's Jesse Rogers. "Doing well. Progressing without limitations." The procedure could impact Morrow's availability on Opening Day and the month of April. Morrow has an impressive 1.47 ERA, 22 saves, and a 1.08 WHIP in 35 games last season but was sidelined on July 15 with his biceps injury. Morrow is in his second year of a two-year, $21 million deal with the Cubs. If Morrow starts the 2019 season on the disabled list, the Cubs will look towards veteran Pedro Strop to finish off ballgames if the team doesn't add any closer depth during the offseason.
