WATCH: Heyward cusses during postgame interview, gets water thrown in his face

by - Senior Writer -

Clearly caught up in the moment after hitting his second career walk-off home run on Wednesday to give the Chicago Cubs a 3-2 win over the Miami Marlins, Jason Heyward used some rather choice language to begin his on-field postgame interview. Speaking with Cubs announcers Len Kasper and Jim Deshaies, Heyward addressed his walk-off 11th-inning blast quite comically.

"Better late than never. S---."

Adding the expletive to reinforce his point, Heyward perfectly encapsulated the significance of his lone hit of the night that lifted the Cubs to a win in the third game of a series that has featured three grueling games thus far.

The ridiculousness of the interview only escalated from there, as Heyward was interrupted by Gatorade and water baths while attempting to convey the same point on three separate occasions. Kris Bryant, who hit a walk-off home run in the previous game, and David Bote took turns dumping sports drink and water on "J-Hey."

Then, Anthony Rizzo broke protocol and, instead of dumping the cooler out onto Heyward, opted to splash Heyward directly in the face with a bucket of ice-cold water. Heyward responded with an exclamation of "sick," but, deep down, he probably wanted to let another aforementioned 4-letter "s" word fly once more.
