WATCH: Highlights from Cubs' shutout win versus Pirates

by - Senior Writer -

PITTSBURGH — The Chicago Cubs (65-58) snapped a 4-game losing streak with a shutout victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates (51-71) on Saturday. Winning 2-0 at PNC Park, the Cubs benefited from a solid outing by starting pitcher Jon Lester. Lester stayed calm, cool and collected under pressure throughout his six innings of work and consistently escaped tight jams.

The Pirates went 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men stranded on base as part of a dismal offensive showing for the Buccos. As for the Cubs, Kris Bryant broke up a scoreless tie and put the North Siders ahead by a score of 1-0 with a leadoff home run in the top of the seventh. In the eighth, the Cubs were able to tack on an insurance run due to a Pirates throwing error, and Cubs reliever Rowan Wick went on to collect his first career save in the ninth.
