by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO — Going yard three times at Wrigley Field on Sunday, the Chicago Cubs (50-43) pounded out 13 hits and toppled the Pittsburgh Pirates (44-48) 8-3 in the series finale of a 3-game set. Earning their first sweep in five weeks, the Cubs overcame a 3-1 deficit by outscoring the Buccos 7-0 after the top of the fourth, thereby becoming the first National League Central team to garner 50 wins in 2019.

Albert Almora Jr., Jason Heyward and Kyle Schwarber all went yard for the Cubs on the afternoon. Heyward's 2-run blast proved to be the winning hit, as it gave the Cubs a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Almora and Schwarber then homered on back-to-back pitches in the bottom of the sixth. In addition to earning the winning decision for his work on the mound, Cubs starter Jose Quintana also tabbed an RBI at the plate with a 2-out base knock in the bottom of the fourth.
