PITTSBURGH — Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon has received both praise and criticism for his implementation of themed road trips during his tenure at the helm of the North Siders. The themes are carried out via fashion statements, as the Cubs often wear certain types of attire when boarding planes to begin road trips, and Maddon discussed the young tradition when appearing on MLB Network's Intentional Talk on Friday.

For example, earlier this season, the Cubs donned their favorite basketball jerseys for one road trip and dressed up in Western-themed clothing in order to resemble starting pitcher Jon Lester for another. Maddon defended the light-hearted ritual and also pointed out how outdated and ridiculous he finds it that many teams dress up in suits and other uncomfortable formal attire for plane rides.
