CHICAGO — The Pittsburgh Pirates made what initially seemed like a smart decision by intentionally walking Chicago Cubs third baseman David Bote with a runner on second and two outs in the bottom of the fourth on Sunday. However, the Buccos were made to look foolish when Cubs starting pitcher Jose Quintana, whom the Pirates intentionally walked Bote in order to reach, made them pay at the plate.

Driving home second baseman Robel Garcia with an opposite-field base knock at Wrigley Field, Quintana came up big in an at-bat that the Pirates were hoping would be an easy out. The clutch 2-out single cut the Pirates' lead down to 3-2, as it enabled Garcia to score with ease. The play provided Quintana with his first RBI of the season.
