Cubs Corner with Tony Andracki: Offseason talk, Trade rumors, Roster predictions, more

by - Staff Writer -

On this edition of the Cubs Corner, presented by Coach’s Bar and Grill, Anthony welcomed Marquee Sport’s Tony Andracki to chat about the Cubs’ offseason to this point.

COACH’S NOTE: Despite the ongoing pandemic, Coach’s Bar and Grill is still doing carryout and delivery for their food, so make sure you get to Coach’s.

The pair first started talking about Andracki’s first year with Marquee Sports and how the season was without stepping in the ballpark and covering the Cubs remotely.

The conversation then shifted into the Cubs offseason, which has featured a lot of loss — Theo Epstein, Len Kasper, Kyle Schwarber, Victor Caratini, Yu Darvish, Albert Almora Jr and Jon Lester — and Andracki made sure to explain what Jed Hoyer has been saying, this is more of a retool than a rebuild despite how it feels.

The pair also got into the rumors that Willson Contreras and Kris Bryant may be involved in trades that could ship them out of Chicago as early as this week.

A large chunk of the conversation also included a recap of the Yu Darvish and Victor Caratini trade to the Padres for Zach Davies, a capable starter, and four young prospects to help bolster the Cubs’ farm system.

Andracki gave a nice reason for Cubs fans to be optimistic with the return the Cubs got for their players and a solid background on each of the young prospects — Minor league infielders Reginald Preciado, 17, and Yeison Santana, 20, and outfielders Ismael Mena, 18, Owen Caisse, 18.

Before wrapping up the podcast, both Anthony and Tony also gave their predictions on if Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Javier Baez and Willson Contreras will be on the opening day roster in 2021 or 2022.

That and more on this edition of the Cubs Corner.

As always, the podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Soundcloud, and the CubsHQ website.
