PITTSBURGH – The Chicago Cubs today activated left-handed pitcher Jose Quintana off of the 10-day injured list and optioned left-handed pitcher Rex Brothers to the South Bend Alternate Site.

Quintana will make the start for the Cubs tonight when they continue their four-game series at the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Quintana, 31, has been sidelined since September 2 due to left lat inflammation, his second stint on the injured list this year. He began the season on the 10-day injured list with a left thumb nerve injury and posted no record and a 6.00 ERA (4 ER/6.0 IP) in two relief outings for the Cubs this season.

The southpaw went 13-9 with a 4.68 ERA (89 ER/171.0 IP) in 32 appearances (31 starts) with the Cubs last season, surpassing 30 starts for the seventh season in a row and matching his season-best in wins. Acquired from the White Sox on July 13, 2017, Quintana has gone 33-23 with a 4.26 ERA (206 ER/435.2 IP) in 80 appearances (77 starts) with the Cubs overall.

Brothers, 32, has posted no record and an 8.10 ERA (3 ER/3.1 IP) in three relief outings for the Cubs this season.
