The Chicago Cubs announced on Saturday night that they have excercised the 2020 club option of $10.5 million for starting lefty pitcher Jose Quintana.
Quintana went 13-9 (31 starts) with a 4.68 ERA, 152 strikeouts, and a 1.39 WHIP this past season. He reached 30 starts for the seventh season in a row and matched his career-high in wins. Of course, the 4.68 ERA was very high (worst mark since his rookie year), so the Cubs hope for a bounce-back type year in 2020.
Since being traded from the White Sox in 2017, he has a 4.23 ERA.
For his MLB career in seven seasons, he has 83-77 record with a 3.72 ERA, 1298 strikeouts, and 1.27 WHIP.
The team decided not to pick up the team option on lefty reliever Derek Holland who had a buyout of 500K.
Holland had a horrid 20 appearances with the Cubs with a 6.89 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 2019.
Chicago's 40-man roster is now at 32 players.
