Cubs News: Theo Epstein unsure of Jose Quintana's injury timetable

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs veteran pitcher Jose Quintana hurt his thumb washing dishes as it required five stitches.

Quintana had to have surgery Thursday morning in Chicago to repair a lacerated sensory nerve. All indications is that the surgery went well.

Cubs President of Operations Theo Epstein told reporters on Thursday that he can't forecast how long that Quintana will out.

"There's a best-case scenario in which it heals quickly, and his thumb feels good, and he can resume a pretty rapid ramp up from that point," he said. "But there's certainly another scenario in which the nerve takes longer to heal, and he's gonna be significantly delayed.

All they can do it wait and see after the unfortunate dishwashing accident.

"We really can't forecast it; we just have to wait and see and hope for the best when he's able to start throwing in a couple of weeks."

In 2019, Quintana had a record of 13-9 with a 4.68 ERA, 152 strikeouts, and 1.39 WHIP.
