First Look: Cubs 10-game homestand |
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs will host their third homestand of the 2017 season with visits from National League Central Division rivals Cincinnati Reds May 16-18 and Milwaukee Brewers May 19-21, followed by the San Francisco Giants May 22-25.
On Thursday, May 18, the Cubs will commemorate the 70th anniversary of Jackie Robinson playing his first game at Wrigley Field – the only remaining Major League ballpark in which Robinson played. The game on May 18, 1947, drew a paid crowd of 46,572 fans to Wrigley Field, which remains the largest paid regular season crowd in ballpark history. Jackie Robinson’s granddaughter, Meta Robinson, will help raise a new flag honoring his legacy on the ballpark’s right field foul pole. The team had previously flown a “JR 42” flag on Wrigley Field rooftop following the retirement of Robinson’s number 42 by Major League Baseball in 1997. The previous day, May 17, is Majestic Jersey Day at Wrigley Field. Following Wednesday evening’s game, Cubs players will give the jerseys “off their back” to Majestic’s guest fans, plus two lucky fans hand-selected at the game. Fans tuning in to watch the Cubs face the Brewers on CSN Chicago Friday, May 19, will hear from guest broadcaster Kerry Wood, while Ryan Dempster will join the television broadcast Saturday, May 20. Both former Cubs will fill in for television analyst Jim Deshaies. Tickets remain available at www.cubs.com or 800-THE-CUBS (800-843-2827). Highlights of the homestand follow.
