Cubs News: Brandon Kintzler dealing with pectoral soreness |
CHICAGO — Chicago Cubs reliever
Brandon Kintzler helped the Cubs escape a tough spot against the Oakland Athletics on Monday night. In the eighth inning at Wrigley Field, the A's collected three runs on back-to-back home runs before Kintzler entered the contest and calmed the storm by getting the Cubs out of the frame.
Unfortunately for the North Siders, the right-handed Kintzler appeared to clutch at his right pectoral while leaving the field once the third out was collected. Following the game, Cubs manager Joe Maddon praised the Cubs' bullpen in his postgame press conference but also revealed that Kintzler had indeed been injured. Not necessarily what you want to see from your currently most critical reliever while you also have a bunch of other injuries. pic.twitter.com/tLpg53S7U1 Joe Maddon #CubsWin 6-5 Oakland Athletics #W #YodeportesChicago #postgame pic.twitter.com/IUQxtFiOsu According to Maddon, Kintzler experienced discomfort in his right pectoral during the course of his eighth-inning outing and will undergo further evaluation on Tuesday. With closer Craig Kimbrel and setup man Pedro Strop currently on the shelf, the Cubs would be in a precarious situation if Kintzler had to miss time due to injury, as well. Maddon confirmed that Kintzler did had discomfort in his right pec & was having it checked out after the game. Cameras caught him wincing and grabbing at it before finishing his night. #Cubs
