John is in his second season with Chicago after he signed a two-year deal with the Cubs, December 8, 2015 ... holds a career record of 176-135 with a 3.88 ERA (1,150 ER/2,669.2 IP) in 417 games across 14 major league seasons with the Angels (2002-09), Red Sox (2010-11 and 13-14), Cardinals (2014-15) and Cubs ... Is one of just 17 pitchers to record at least one victory against all 30 current major league franchises ... Earned All-Star honors in 2007 and has twice finished in the top-10 of the Cy Young voting, finishing third in 2007 and ninth in 2015 ... His 2,669.2 innings pitched since the start of the 2002 campaign are third-most in the majors while his 416 starts rank third, his 176 victories rank fourth and his 2,145 strikeouts rank sixth ... Has 13 double-digit win seasons since 2003, tied for most in the majors with Mark Buehrle ... has posted 10 or more wins in every full season he has pitched since 2003 ... has reached the 200.0-inning mark six times and has made 31 or more starts in a season eight times ... A three-time World Series champion (2002 with Angels, 2013 with Red Sox and 2016 with Cubs), he owns an 8-6 record with a 3.27 ERA (51 ER/140.1 IP) in 26 career post-season games, including 23 starts ... the eight victories are tied for third-most among active pitchers, trailing only CC Sabathia and Jon Lester's nine victories ... his 23 starts and 140.1 innings pitched lead active pitchers ... In 2002, he started and won Game Seven of the World Series against the San Francisco Giants on three days rest, becoming the first rookie pitcher to win a World Series Game Seven since Pittsburgh's Babe Adams in 1909 ... Was the 2013 recipient of the Tony Conigliaro Award which is annually presented to a Major League player who has overcome adversity through the attributes of spirit, determination and courage that were trademarks of Tony C. ... also named Comeback Player of the Year by the Boston chapter of the BBWAA ... Was member of MLB team as part of All-Star Series 2006 in Japan ... Was originally selected by the Angels in the second round of the 1999 Draft out of Grayson County College in Denison, Texas ... also played one season at University of Texas-Arlington ... Graduated from Abilene (Texas) High School in 1997 … played football, basketball and baseball (first base), earning two-time All-District first team honors … named All-State as senior after hitting .541 with 21 RBI.
