Dexter Fowler is in his second season with the Cubs after signing a one-year contract February 25, 2016 with a mutual option for 2017 ... was originally acquired by the Cubs from Houston, January 19, 2015 for pitcher Dan Straily and infielder Luis Valbuena. Owns a .267 batting average (875-for-3,278) with 170 doubles, 65 triples, 65 homers, 291 RBI, 114 stolen bases, a .363 on-base percentage and a .418 slugging mark in all or part of eight seasons with the Rockies (2008-13), Astros (2014) and Cubs (2015). Switch-hitter has batted .303 (284-for-937) from the right side and .252 (591-for-2,341) from the left side in his career. Has a .984 fielding percentage (31 E/1,931 TC) in 882 games, 813 starts, in center field ... made one appearance in right field, playing 1.0 inning with no chances in 2008 with the Rockies. His 65 triples since the beginning of the 2009 season lead the majors (Michael Bourn is second with 56). His 475 walks since 2009 rank tied for third-most among all switch-hitters (Ben Zobrist leads with 566) ... he is one of three major leaguers with 65-plus walks in each of the last five seasons (also Andrew McCutchen and Carlos Santana). Spent his first six major league seasons (2008-13) with the Rockies and holds the all-time franchise records in games played in center field (619) and triples (53) ... his 1,295 career putouts ranks third among outfielders in franchise history. Reached the postseason in 2009 with the Rockies and last season with the Cubs. Set the Rockies single-season triples record in two-straight seasons, and his 15 in 2011 are the franchise record for the category (had 14 triples in 2010). In 2009, he finished among the rookie league leaders in runs, doubles, triples, extra-base hits, stolen bases and walks. w That season, set two Colorado rookie records with 67 walks 27 stolen bases (ahead of Quinton McCracken, 17 SB in 1996) ... also finished the first half of the season with 19 doubles, the most ever by a Rockies rookie. Tied modern day (since 1900) rookie record with five stolen bases vs. San Diego, April 27, 2009. Named by Baseball America as the top prospect in the Rockies system as well as the organization's best athlete heading into the 2009 season. Was the starting center fielder during the 2008 All-Star Futures Game at Yankee Stadium. Won a bronze medal as a member of Team USA at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Named a First-Team High School All-American by both Baseball America and USA Today in his senior season of 2004… the outfielder batted .457 with 14 homers and 23 stolen bases for Milton High School in Alpharetta, Ga. Selected by Colorado in the 14th round of the June 2004 draft ... signed by Rockies scout Damon Iannelli. He and his wife, Aliya, have been heavily involved in charitable efforts ... in the winter of 2013, he pledged $1 to every new follower he got on twitter (@DexterFowler) during the holiday season to the AND JUSTICE FOR ALL (AJFA) organization, which is based in Utah ... the organization renders civil legal aid to those in need, such as battered women, homeless veterans and seniors without retirement.
